Purukupali and Bima are husband and wife in Tiwi tradition. Their son Jinani's death, caused by Bima's neglect while she dallied with Japara the moon man, triggered Purukupali's decree that death would be permanent for all living things.
Japara the moon man seduced Bima, Purukupali's wife, luring her away from her duty watching their infant son Jinani. This illicit affair led directly to the child's death and the origin of permanent death in the Tiwi world.
