The Numbakulla descended from the sky and found Ankotarinja as an inapatua — a semi-formed mass without properly separated limbs. Using stone knives, they carved his features, separated his arms and legs, and transformed him into a fully formed human ancestor.
The Numbakulla fashioned tjurunga for each ancestor they shaped from the formless Inapatua, inscribing sacred designs on stone and wood that embody the spiritual essence of the being and connect the living to the Dreamtime.
