After Mudungkala crawled the Tiwi Islands into being, Banaitja walked the land during the Palaneri and furnished it with forests, freshwater springs, animals, and the sacred sites where ceremony would be held.
Mudungkala created the Tiwi Islands by rising from the ground and crawling across the sea, separating them from the Australian mainland. She carried three infant children — the first Tiwi people — establishing both the land and the population of the islands.
