An important Aztec earth goddess known as the grandmother of the gods and the heart of the earth. She was the patroness of midwives, healers, and weavers. Her festival Ochpaniztli featured ritual sweeping to purify temples and streets. After the Spanish conquest, she was syncretized with the Virgin of Guadalupe.
