Xilonen is the youthful form of Chicomecoatl — the tender green ear before it ripens into the mature grain. Their separate feast days trace the maize cycle: Xilonen honored at Huey Tecuilhuitl when the first ears form, Chicomecoatl at Huey Tozoztli when the harvest is blessed.
