About Ananda

Family
  • Amritodana(parent)Marriage

Ananda was born to the Shakya prince Amritodana, brother of King Suddhodana, making Ananda and Siddhartha Gautama cousins within the royal Shakya clan of Kapilavastu.

Some Pali commentaries identify Ananda's father as Suklodana rather than Amitodana; the Mahavastu favors Amitodana.
