Mythology & Lore

The Decisive Blow

When Yam the sea god claimed tyrannical dominion over the divine assembly and demanded Baal as tribute, the craftsman god Kothar-wa-Khasis forged two magical clubs for the storm god's defense. He named the first Yagrush, "Chaser," and the second Aymur, "Driver." These were not ordinary weapons. Kothar spoke words of power over each club before its use, an incantation that named the weapon and declared its target.

Kothar released Yagrush first. He pronounced its fate: the club would chase Yam from his throne. Baal hurled the enchanted weapon, and it struck Yam between the shoulders. The sea god staggered but did not fall. His grip on power held.

Then Kothar turned to the second weapon and spoke: "Your name is Aymur. Aymur, drive Yam, drive Yam from his throne, Nahar from the seat of his dominion." Baal launched Aymur, and the club struck Yam between the eyes, on the skull. The sea god collapsed and was scattered. Baal dragged out his fallen enemy, and Astarte proclaimed the storm god's kingship. Yam was driven from his throne at last.
