Midir took Étaín as his wife, but his jealous first wife Fuamnach transformed her into a fly and drove her from the Otherworld. A thousand years later, Midir found Étaín reborn as a mortal queen and won her back in a game of fidchell at Tara, rising through the roof as a pair of swans.
Aengus Óg sheltered Étaín at Brú na Bóinne after Fuamnach transformed her, keeping her in a crystal sun-bower within the mound until the jealous wind scattered her from his care.
