Description

No one could speak a lie with Fragarach at their throat. Forged in the Otherworld and first wielded by Manannán mac Lir, this sword cut through any armor, commanded the wind, and compelled absolute truth.

Mythology & Lore

The Sword of Manannán

Fragarach was a sword forged in the Otherworld and first wielded by Manannán mac Lir, the sea god. Manannán later gave Fragarach to Lugh Lámhfhada, who carried it as one of his chief weapons among the Tuatha Dé Danann.

Powers of the Blade

No armour or shield could withstand Fragarach's edge. When the blade was held at a person's throat, it compelled absolute truth, so that no one could speak a lie under its pressure. The sword also commanded the wind, granting its bearer power over the air itself.

Fragarach in the Cycles

In the Oidheadh Chloinne Tuireann, Fragarach appears among the possessions of Lugh when he sets the éric that the sons of Tuireann must pay for murdering his father Cian. In later Fenian tradition, Fragarach came into the possession of the Fianna, some accounts placing it in the hands of Fionn mac Cumhaill.
