Description
When the rightful High King of Ireland stood upon the Lia Fáil, the stone roared so loudly it could be heard across the land. Brought from the city of Falias and placed at Tara, it cried out under every king from Éremhón to Conn of the Hundred Battles — until the day it fell silent.
Mythology & Lore
Brought from Falias
The Lia Fáil was one of four treasures the Tuatha Dé Danann brought to Ireland from their cities in the north of the world. It came from the city of Falias, where the druid Morfessa taught its mysteries. The Tuatha Dé placed it at Tara, the hill that became the seat of Irish high kingship. Its purpose was singular: to recognize the rightful king.
The Cry of the Stone
When the rightful king stood upon the Lia Fáil, the stone cried out with a roar heard throughout the land. The Lebor Gabála records that it roared under every king from Éremhón to Conn of the Hundred Battles. Then it fell silent.
The Stone at Tara
A standing stone on the Hill of Tara in County Meath is still identified as the Lia Fáil. It stands on the Mound of the Hostages, one of the oldest structures at the site.
