  Lir married Aobh, daughter of Bodb Derg, and she bore him four children — Fionnuala and Aed mac Lir from the first birth, Fiachra mac Lir and Conn mac Lir from the second — before dying in the labor that brought the twins into the world.

• Penarddun(spouse),Brân the Blessed(child),Branwen(child),Manannán mac Lir(child)— Marriage

  Llŷr and Penarddun are the parents of Brân the Blessed, Branwen, and Manannán mac Lir — the royal family of the Island of the Mighty whose fates unfold across the Second and Third Branches of the Mabinogi.

• Aoife(spouse)— Marriage

  After Aobh's death, Bodb Derg gave Lir his second daughter Aoife in marriage. The union produced no children, and Aoife's growing jealousy of her stepchildren's bond with their father drove her to transform them into swans.

  Lir is a chieftain of the Tuatha Dé Danann who was passed over for the kingship in favor of Bodb Derg after the defeat of the Fomorians, a slight that led to his isolation at Sídh Fionnachaidh.

  The Tuatha Dé Danann descended through the sky in a dark cloud upon Ireland, bringing with them the arts of sorcery, druidry, and every craft — a divine race who conquered the Fir Bolg and ruled until the coming of the Milesians.
