Mythology & Lore

The Dagda's Club

The Lorg Mór was the great club of the Dagda, chief god of the Tuatha Dé Danann. It was so enormous that it required wheels to transport, and the Dagda dragged it behind him as he walked, its trailing end carving deep furrows in the earth that became boundary ditches and earthworks.

The Two Ends

The club's two ends held opposite powers. One end killed the living: a single blow could slay nine men at once. The other restored the dead to life.

The Club in Battle

During the Second Battle of Mag Tuired, the Dagda wielded the Lorg Mór against the Fomorians, sweeping whole ranks of the enemy before him. In the approach to the battle, the Fomorians had tried to humiliate the Dagda by forcing him to eat an impossibly vast meal of porridge. He survived with his strength intact and brought the club to bear when the fighting began.
