Description
Dragon King of the Southern Sea. When Nezha killed his nephew Ao Bing and stripped the dragon's sinews, Ao Qin joined his brothers to threaten Chentangguan with a flood and carried their grievance to the Jade Emperor's court. In the *Xiyou Ji*, he surrendered a phoenix-feather cap to Sun Wukong to stop the monkey from wrecking the dragon palaces.
Mythology & Lore
The Wrath of the Dragon Kings
Ao Qin's most dramatic appearance comes in the Fengshen Yanyi. After Nezha kills Ao Bing, the third son of Ao Guang, and strips his dragon sinews to make a belt, Ao Guang summons his three brothers. The four Dragon Kings confront Nezha's father Li Jing at Chentangguan, threatening to flood the city entirely. When Li Jing cannot control his son, they carry their complaint to the Jade Emperor's court. The confrontation resolves only when Nezha takes his own life rather than see his family destroyed.
The Phoenix-Feather Cap
In the Xiyou Ji, Sun Wukong descends to Ao Guang's Eastern Sea palace and claims the Ruyi Jingu Bang. Not satisfied with the staff alone, he demands matching armor. Ao Guang calls his brothers for help. Ao Qin offers a phoenix-feather cap, Ao Run a suit of golden chain mail, Ao Shun his cloud-walking boots. The four brothers filed a complaint with the Jade Emperor immediately after.
