Description

Ruler of the Northern Sea and youngest of the four dragon brothers. In the *Xiyou Ji*, he surrenders his prized cloud-walking boots to Sun Wukong, one of four reluctant tributes the dragon brothers pay to keep the Monkey King from wrecking their palaces.

The Dragon Kings Against Nezha

When Nezha kills Ao Bing, the third son of Ao Guang, and strips his dragon sinews, the outrage belongs to all four brothers. In the Fengshen Yanyi, Ao Guang summons Ao Qin, Ao Run, and Ao Shun to his side. Together they confront Li Jing at Chentangguan, threatening to drown the city beneath the waves. When the mortal general cannot rein in his son, the four Dragon Kings take their case to the Jade Emperor's court. Even the lords of the four seas must petition Heaven for justice.

Cloud-Walking Boots

In the Xiyou Ji, Sun Wukong descends to Ao Guang's Eastern Sea palace and claims the Ruyi Jingu Bang. Not satisfied with the staff alone, he demands a full suit of matching equipment. Ao Guang calls his three brothers for help: Ao Qin offers a phoenix-feather cap, Ao Run a suit of golden chain mail, and Ao Shun his cloud-walking boots. Four divine rulers of the oceans scrambling to placate a single monkey. The four brothers promptly filed a complaint with the Jade Emperor.
