  • Aker guards the Akhet in his double-lion form, his two heads watching east and west simultaneously to protect the sun's passage through the horizon at dawn and dusk.

  • Aker, the double-lion earth god, guards the eastern and western horizons through which Ra's solar barque enters and exits the Duat each night.

  • Each dawn, Ra emerged reborn as Khepri through Aker's eastern horizon gate, the scarab god pushing the newborn sun into the sky after its passage through the underworld.

  • Shu supported the sky above Aker's earthly body, with the air god holding Nut aloft while the double-lion god formed the terrestrial foundation upon which the solar cycle played out.
