Mythology & Lore
The Primordial Dark
Kek's name means "darkness." Not night, which the sun would undo each morning, but the absolute dark before there was any sun to undo it. He was frog-headed, paired with Kauket, his serpent-headed counterpart. Together they were one of the four dualities of the void in the Hermopolitan Ogdoad.
When the sun god emerged from the cosmic egg and light flooded the world, the darkness ended. Kek ended with it. He was buried with the rest of the Ogdoad at Medinet Habu.
