Bodvild bore Wayland's child after he drugged and assaulted her as part of his revenge against her father Niðuð. In later tradition, the child was the hero Witege, inheritor of his father's smithing legacy.
⚠ The Völundarkviða confirms Böðvildr’s pregnancy but does not name the child. The identification as Witige/Vidga comes from the Þiðreks saga and Dietrich cycle tradition.
Nidud was father to Böðvildr and two unnamed sons. When Wayland took his revenge on the captive king, he killed the two sons and assaulted Böðvildr, devastating Nidud's entire family.
Böðvildr brought Wayland the broken ring he had made for his valkyrie wife. Wayland repaired it, drugged her with ale, and assaulted her as part of his revenge against her father Niðuð, then revealed his deeds and escaped on forged wings.
