Heimir was Brunhild's foster-father in the Völsunga saga, having raised her from youth. He was also married to her sister Bekkhild.
After Brunhild and Sigurd's deaths, Heimir concealed their infant daughter Aslaug inside his harp and wandered as a traveling musician to protect the child from the enemies who had destroyed her parents.
