Description

When Hephaestus hesitated to chain Prometheus to the rock, Bia showed no such mercy — she was pure force, Zeus's silent enforcer, compelling the smith god to complete his terrible work. Daughter of Pallas and Styx, she never speaks in the myth, only acts.

Mythology & Lore

Daughter of Styx

Bia was a daughter of the Titan Pallas and the Oceanid Styx. She and her brother Kratos were the enforcers among four siblings whom Styx brought to Zeus's side when war broke between the Olympians and the Titans. Styx was the first immortal to answer Zeus's call, crossing the sky with her children to fight for him. The gamble paid: after the Titans were overthrown and cast into Tartarus, Zeus honored Styx by making her waters the binding oath of the gods, and granted her children the permanent station of attending his throne. They would never leave his side. Where Zeus reigned, Bia stood ready.

The Binding of Prometheus

When Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to mortals, Zeus ordered his punishment carried out by force. He sent Bia and Kratos to drag the Titan to a desolate crag at the edge of the world, where Hephaestus waited with chains, wedges, and hammer. The smith god balked — Prometheus was his kinsman, a god who had helped Zeus win the very war that put him on his throne. To pin him to bare rock for the sake of mortals felt like sacrilege. Kratos answered harshly: Zeus's orders do not bend, and pity for a thief earns nothing but punishment.

Hephaestus drove the adamantine wedge through Prometheus's chest and clamped each wrist in iron, then shackled his legs to the stone, grieving aloud as he worked. He cursed the craft in his own hands. Through it all, Bia never spoke a word. Kratos argued and taunted, Hephaestus wept, but she simply stood and watched — force given form, compelling the task by her presence alone. When the last shackle was hammered fast, she and Kratos departed without a backward glance, leaving Prometheus chained above the abyss, waiting for the eagle that would come each dawn to tear out his liver.
