  • In some Greek traditions, Aeneas carried the Palladium out of burning Troy, preserving the sacred image of Athena for his future people.

  • Dardanus possessed the Palladium, a sacred image of Athena that had fallen from heaven, and installed it in Dardania. The Palladium later protected Troy until the Greeks stole it during the Trojan War.

  • Helenus revealed to the Greeks that Troy could not fall while the Palladium remained within its walls. Odysseus and Diomedes subsequently stole the sacred image, fulfilling one of the conditions for Troy's destruction.

  • The Palladium, Athena's sacred image in Troy's citadel, was believed to protect the city. Its theft by Odysseus and Diomedes fulfilled one of the prophecies required to end the Trojan War.
