  Polynices married Argeia, daughter of Adrastus, during his exile from Thebes. Their son Thersander later avenged his father as one of the Epigoni and became king of Thebes.

  Thersander fought against Laodamas, son of Eteocles, during the Epigoni's siege of Thebes. Laodamas defended the city his father had held, while Thersander fought to reclaim the throne his father Polynices had been denied.
