    Drona and his wife Kripi had a single son, Ashwatthama, who was born with a divine jewel fused to his forehead and cried with a sound like a horse's neigh, giving him his name.

Enemy of
  • Ashwatthama and Arjuna clashed with Brahmastras after the war. Ashwatthama directed his weapon at the Pandavas' unborn heir, and Arjuna was forced to withdraw his own at Krishna's command.

  • Ashwatthama launched the Brahmastra at the unborn Pandava heir after the war. Krishna intervened, cursing Ashwatthama to wander immortally and reviving the child Parikshit in Uttara's womb.

  • Ashwatthama stole into the sleeping Pandava camp on the war's final night and strangled Dhrishtadyumna to death with his bare hands, avenging Dhrishtadyumna's killing of his father Drona on the battlefield.
