At the close of the Kali Yuga, Kalki rides forth on Devadatta to slay Kali Purusha, the demon who is the dark age incarnate, cutting down the embodiment of adharma and ending the cycle of degradation that consumed the world.
King Parikshit caught Kali Purusha disguised as a king, beating the bull Dharma who stood on his last remaining leg. Rather than slay the demon, Parikshit granted him five dwelling places of vice — gambling, drink, lust, slaughter, and gold — and Kali hid in the king's own golden crown, corrupting him from within.
