Vishravas and Kaikesi are the parents of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, Vibhishana, and Shurpanakha. Kaikesi was a rakshasi chosen by her father Sumali to marry the sage Vishravas.
The sage Vishravas wed Ilavida, daughter of Bharadvaja, and fathered Kubera, who would become lord of Lanka and god of wealth before his half-brother Ravana seized both his kingdom and his flying chariot Pushpaka.
Vishravas was the illustrious son of the sage Pulastya, grandson of Brahma through the line of the Prajapatis, inheriting his father's spiritual power and establishing the lineage from which both Kubera and Ravana would descend.
