About Vishvakarma

Created
  • Krishna commanded the ocean to yield land, and Vishvakarma, the divine architect, raised Dwarka upon it — a golden city of jeweled palaces and pleasure gardens built in a single night, rivaling Amaravati in splendor.

  • Vishvakarma, architect of the gods, built Lanka as a city of gold — an impregnable island fortress of divine craftsmanship. Every palace, wall, and street was wrought from precious metals and gems by the celestial builder.

  • Vishvakarma, the divine architect, forged the Sudarshana Chakra from the blazing dust shaved from Surya's surface, fashioning a discus of 108 serrated edges that spins with the brilliance of the sun itself.

  • Vishvakarma fashioned the Trishula from the blazing fragments shaved from Surya's body, forging Shiva's three-pronged weapon alongside the other divine arms of the gods.

  • Vishvakarma forged the Vajra from the bones of the sage Dadhichi, who willingly surrendered his body so the gods might have a weapon capable of slaying Vritra.

The Rigveda (1.32.2, 1.85.9) attributes the Vajra's fashioning to Tvashtri, the Vedic smith; later Puranic texts assign the role to Vishvakarma.

  • Vishvakarma, the divine architect, is Surya's father-in-law through his daughter Sanjna. When Sanjna could not bear Surya's radiance, Vishvakarma placed the sun god on his lathe and trimmed his brilliance, using the shavings to forge divine weapons.
