  Abe no Yasuna married the fox spirit Kuzunoha, who had taken human form after he saved her from hunters in Shinoda Forest. She bore him a son, the legendary onmyōji Abe no Seimei, but when the boy glimpsed her true fox nature she vanished back into the forest, leaving only a farewell poem brushed on a screen.

  Kamo no Yasunori discovered that his young pupil Abe no Seimei could see demons invisible even to him. Recognizing Seimei's talent surpassed his own, Yasunori transmitted the full secrets of onmyōdō to him rather than to his own son, making Seimei heir to the Kamo divinatory tradition.

• Shuten-dōji

  Abe no Seimei performed the divination that located Shuten-dōji's fortress on Mount Ōe and determined the auspicious timing for the expedition. His onmyōdō arts guided Minamoto no Yorimitsu's warriors to the demon king.
