    Ugayafukiaezu and Tamayori-hime had four sons: Itsuse, Inahi, Mikenu, and their youngest Kamuyamato-Iwarebiko, who would become Emperor Jimmu. Itsuse fell in battle during the eastern expedition, Inahi departed for the sea plain, and Mikenu trod the waves to the eternal land, leaving Jimmu alone to conquer Yamato.

    After conquering Yamato, Emperor Jimmu married Himetataraisuzuhime, daughter of the great land kami Ōmononushi. Their union bound the heavenly imperial line to the earthly kunitsukami, and their son Kamununakawamimi succeeded as Emperor Suizei.

  • Nigihayahi, a heavenly deity who had descended to Yamato before Jimmu, recognized Jimmu's divine mandate, killed his lord Nagasunehiko, and submitted to Emperor Jimmu, securing the final victory of the eastern conquest.

  • Amaterasu sent the three-legged crow Yatagarasu to guide Emperor Jimmu's army through the trackless mountains of Kumano during his eastern campaign to found the throne of Yamato.

  • During the eastern expedition, Nagasunehiko's arrow struck Itsuse, wounding him fatally. Emperor Jimmu's eldest brother declared they had erred by fighting eastward against the sun and urged the army to circle south, dying from his wound at the sea of Chinu.

  • When Emperor Jimmu's army lay paralyzed by a poisonous vapor in the mountains of Kumano, Takemikazuchi sent the divine sword Futsu no Mitama to earth through the mortal Takakuraji, who presented it to Emperor Jimmu. The sword's power revived the fallen army and cut through the malevolent forces blocking the path.
