Emperor Chūai and Empress Jingū conceived Ōjin before Chūai's sudden death. Jingū pressed magical stones against her womb to delay the birth while she led the invasion of the Korean kingdoms, and Ōjin was born in Tsukushi upon her triumphant return.
Empress Jingū wielded the tide jewels granted by Ryūjin during her conquest of the Korean kingdoms, lowering the sea to strand the enemy fleet on the exposed seabed, then raising the waves to drown the sailors where they stood.
Sumiyoshi Myojin guided Empress Jingū across the sea during her invasion of the Korean kingdoms, calming the waves and granting fair winds. In gratitude, she established Sumiyoshi Taisha at the spot where the deities bade her enshrine them upon her return.
Empress Jingū carried the Tide Jewels into battle against the Korean kingdoms, casting the ebb jewel to strand the enemy fleet on the exposed seabed, then the flood jewel to drown the sailors beneath the returning waves.
