Shuten-dōji and his oni band occupied Mount Ōe as their stronghold, using it as a base to raid Kyōto and abduct noble women, until Minamoto no Yorimitsu's expedition destroyed them there.
Minamoto no Yorimitsu led his Shitennō to Mount Ōe to destroy Shuten-dōji's oni fortress. The mountain was the site of their greatest victory, where they tricked the demon king with poisoned sake and beheaded him.
