Nagasunehiko, lord of Tomi, was Emperor Jimmu's chief adversary during the eastern conquest of Yamato. His forces repelled Jimmu's initial assault from the sea, killing Jimmu's brother Itsuse with an arrow, and only fell when the golden kite blinded his army with divine radiance.
Nagasunehiko's arrow struck Itsuse during the first battle of Emperor Jimmu's eastern expedition at Naniwa. The wound proved fatal, and Itsuse died at the sea of Chinu, cursing that he, a child of the sun, had been defeated by fighting facing the sun.
During the eastern expedition, Nagasunehiko's arrow struck Itsuse, wounding him fatally. Emperor Jimmu's eldest brother declared they had erred by fighting eastward against the sun and urged the army to circle south, dying from his wound at the sea of Chinu.
