    Mikahayahi, Hihayahi, and Takemikazuchi were born from the blood of Kagutsuchi that collected at the guard of Izanagi's sword when he slew the fire god (Kojiki).

Enemy of
  • Kashima (Takemikazuchi) descended as Amaterasu's war god to force Okuninushi to cede the earthly realm. He defeated Okuninushi's son Takeminakata and compelled the transfer of sovereignty (Kojiki).

  • Takeminakata seized a boulder and challenged Takemikazuchi to wrestle for the earthly realm — but the thunder god crushed his arm like a reed stalk and chased him to the shores of Lake Suwa, where Takeminakata surrendered and swore never to leave.

Rules over
  • Takemikazuchi pins the giant catfish Namazu beneath the kaname-ishi foundation stone at Kashima, preventing earthquakes. When the god is absent during Kannazuki, the catfish thrashes free and the earth shakes.

  • Takemikazuchi served as Amaterasu's divine enforcer, dispatched to pacify the earthly kami of Ashihara no Nakatsukuni before Ninigi's heavenly descent.

  • When Takemikazuchi descended to demand the earthly realm, he found Kotoshironushi fishing at Cape Miho and demanded his answer first — Kotoshironushi counseled his father Ōkuninushi to yield, clapped his hands, transformed his boat into a green fence of branches, and vanished behind it forever.

  • Takemikazuchi descended to Ashihara no Nakatsukuni to compel Ōkuninushi's surrender, demonstrating overwhelming force at the shore of Inasa and securing the transfer of sovereignty to heaven (Kojiki).

  • When Emperor Jimmu's army lay paralyzed by a poisonous vapor in the mountains of Kumano, Takemikazuchi sent the divine sword Futsu no Mitama to earth through the mortal Takakuraji, who presented it to Emperor Jimmu. The sword's power revived the fallen army and cut through the malevolent forces blocking the path.
