• Seokga

  In the Jeju creation myth, Mireuk and Seokga competed to rule the human world by growing flowers. Mireuk's bloomed magnificently, but Seokga cheated by switching them while Mireuk slept, gaining rulership of the flawed present world while the honest Mireuk was displaced to a future age.

Created

• Cheonsang

  Mireuk placed copper pillars at the four corners and heaved heaven apart from earth, establishing Cheonsang as the celestial realm above and the human world below in the first act of Korean cosmogonic ordering.

  Maitreya, the Future Buddha prophesied to descend when the dharma has faded from the world, is venerated across Buddhist Asia as Miroku in Japan, Milefo in China, Mireuk in Korea, and Maitreya in Tibet — the same bodhisattva transmitted through Buddhist scriptural lineages from the original Sanskrit.
