Rules over
  • Yuri succeeded Jumong as the second king of Goguryeo after proving his parentage with the broken sword, then moved the capital from Jolbon to Gungnae and consolidated the young kingdom's rule.

Associated with
  • When Hwa-hui left the court in grief over Yuri's favoritism toward Chi-hui, Yuri pursued her but could not persuade her to return. Resting beneath a tree where orioles flitted in pairs, he composed the Hwangjoga — one of the earliest Korean lyric poems — lamenting his loneliness.

  • Soseono supported Jumong's founding of Goguryeo with her wealth and Jolbon connections. When Yuri arrived as Jumong's first son and heir, Soseono departed south with her own sons to found the kingdom of Baekje.

  • Yuhwa, Yuri's divine grandmother, preserved the broken sword token left by Jumong and guided Yuri to find it, enabling him to prove his identity and claim the Goguryeo throne.
