Esagila was Marduk's great temple in Babylon, raised by the Anunnaki gods as a throne for the champion who had slain Tiamat and ordered the cosmos.
The Anunnaki labored for two years with brick and mortar to build Esagila, raising the temple to its full height as a dwelling worthy of Marduk after his victory over Tiamat.
