Auðumbla licked Búri free from the salty ice blocks of Ginnungagap over three days. On the first day his hair appeared, on the second his head, and on the third the entire first ancestor of the gods emerged.
Auðumbla, the primordial cow, emerged from the melting ice of Ginnungagap alongside Ymir. She nourished the first giant with four rivers of milk from her udder while she herself fed by licking the salty ice.
