Fulla- Norse GodDeity
Also known as: Volla
Description
Hair unbound beneath a golden band, Fulla keeps Frigg's casket and tends the secret counsels no other goddess hears. Among the Ásynjur, she alone shares what Frigg will not speak aloud.
Mythology & Lore
Frigg's Confidant
Snorri describes Fulla in Gylfaginning as a maiden whose hair falls loose, bound only by a golden band. She carries Frigg's casket and shares her most private counsels. No other ásynja holds this position.
Her one appearance in the myths comes during Hermóðr's ride to Hel. After Baldr's death, Nanna died of grief on his funeral pyre. When Hermóðr descended to retrieve Baldr, Nanna sent gifts back with him from the halls of the dead: a linen robe for Frigg, and a finger-ring of gold for Fulla.
The Merseburg Charm
The Second Merseburg Incantation, recorded in Old High German in the tenth century, preserves an older form of her name. In the charm, Phol and Wodan ride into a forest where a horse sprains its foot. Sinthgunt and Sunna charm the injury, then Volla and Friia, and finally Wodan himself speaks the words that set the bone right.
