Gjálp and Greip are daughters of the giant Geirröðr. They attempted to crush Thor against the ceiling rafters in their father's hall, as told in Skáldskaparmál.
Thor slew the giant Geirröðr by catching a lump of molten iron hurled at him and throwing it back through a pillar, killing Geirröðr, as recounted in Snorri's Prose Edda and the Þórsdrápa.
Geirröðr captured Loki in bird form and starved him for three months, forcing the trickster to lure Thor to Geirröðr's hall without Mjölnir as a condition of release.
