Drífa hired the seiðr-witch Huld to either enchant Vanlandi back to Finland or kill him, after Vanlandi broke his oath to return within three winters.
Huld performed seiðr magic and sent a mara that trampled Vanlandi to death in his sleep at Uppsala, as told in Ynglinga saga and Ynglingatal.
