Mythology & Lore
The Belt of Might
Snorri describes Thor's equipment in Gylfaginning 21: when he girds himself with Megingjörð, his divine strength doubles. With Járngreipr on his hands, he can grip the short-handled Mjölnir with full force. The three treasures work together. The belt for strength, the gloves for grip, the hammer for the blow.
The belt's origin is never told. Unlike Mjölnir, forged by Brokkr and Sindri, Megingjörð simply belongs to Thor. No saga records how he came by it. What Snorri makes clear is that the belt is not optional: Thor's full power requires it.
