Sveigðir married the woman Vana during his sojourn in Vanaheim, and she bore him a son, Vanlandi, who succeeded his father as the third Yngling king of Sweden.
Sveigðir succeeded his father Fjölnir as king of the Yngling dynasty in Sweden, according to the Ynglinga saga and the skaldic poem Ynglingatal.
The Yngling dynasty traces its descent from Freyr through the legendary Swedish kings Fjölnir, Sveigðir, Vanlandi, Vísburr, and Domaldi, as catalogued in Ynglingatal and Ynglinga saga.
Sveigðir's quest was to find Asgard, the dwelling-place of the old gods. He never reached it; instead a dwarf lured him into a boulder with the false promise that Odin awaited within.
Sveigðir swore an oath to find Odin and Goðheimr. A dwarf at a boulder promised him that Odin waited within, luring Sveigðir inside before the stone closed behind him forever.
Sveigðir traveled to Vanaheim during his quest for the old gods. He married a woman there and fathered Vanlandi before continuing his journey, as told in the Ynglinga saga.
