    Þjálfi and Röskva are brother and sister, children of an unnamed farmer who hosted Thor for the night. Both were given to Thor as servants after Þjálfi cracked the thighbone of one of the god's sacred goats.

  • During Thor's duel with Hrungnir, Þjálfi was sent ahead to trick the giant, telling him Thor would attack from underground. Þjálfi also fought and toppled the clay giant Mökkurkálfi that the jötnar built as Hrungnir's second.

  • Þjálfi cracked the thighbone of Tanngnjóstr, one of Thor's goats, to eat the marrow, causing the goat to be lame upon resurrection. Thor took Þjálfi and his sister Röskva as servants in compensation.

  • In Útgarða-Loki's hall, Þjálfi raced three times against Hugi and lost each time. When the illusions were revealed, Útgarða-Loki explained that Hugi was Thought itself, and no mortal's legs could outrun the speed of the mind.
