Ahriman corrupted Zahhak into a serpent-shouldered tyrant who ruled Iran for a thousand years. The hero Fereydun, guided by divine khvarenah, overthrew Zahhak and imprisoned him in Mount Damavand, thwarting Ahriman's hold on the kingdom (Shahnameh).
Fereydun rose against Zahhak's thousand-year tyranny, rallying the people behind the blacksmith Kaveh's banner. He defeated Zahhak and chained him inside Mount Damavand, where the serpent king remains imprisoned until the end of time.
Kaveh the blacksmith rallied the people and helped Fereydun overthrow the tyrant Zahhak, as told in the Shahnameh.
