Kane Milohai and Haumea are the divine parents of Pele and Namaka in Hawaiian genealogy. Their children's opposing natures — Pele's fire and Namaka's water — drove the sisters' legendary conflict across the Pacific.
Namaka, goddess of the sea, pursued her sister Pele across the Pacific as Pele searched for a new home. Their conflict of water against fire shaped the Hawaiian island chain, until Pele finally established herself at Kīlauea beyond Namaka's reach.
