Over wine at camp he wagered that his wife was the most virtuous, and rode home to prove it. Lucretia sat spinning by lamplight, winning the contest that would seal her fate. After her violation and death, Collatinus helped drive the Tarquins from Rome and became one of the Republic's first consuls.
