Favonius seized the nymph Chloris as she fled through the spring fields, took her as his bride, and gave her dominion over flowers — transforming her into Flora, who scattered blossoms wherever she walked.
Chloris was identified with the Roman goddess Flora. Ovid's Fasti presents the transformation as literal: the Greek nymph became the Roman deity through her marriage to Zephyrus.
In Ovid's Fasti, Flora provided Juno with a magical flower that allowed her to conceive Mars without Jupiter's involvement, making Flora instrumental in the war god's birth.
