Belobog the White God and Chernobog the Black God stand as eternal opposites in Slavic cosmology — light against darkness, fortune against misery, the bright half of the year against the dark, each defining the other through their opposition.
⚠ Helmold's Chronica Slavorum (1172) attests Chernobog by name but does not name a white counterpart. Belobog as Chernobog's explicit pair first appears in later antiquarian sources (16th-17th c.). Place names like Białobóg provide indirect evidence.
