Mythology & Lore
The Master on the Mountain
Taiyi Zhenren resides in the Golden Light Cave on Qianyuan Mountain, one of the Twelve Golden Immortals who serve under Yuanshi Tianzun. In the Fengshen Yanyi, he foresaw that the boy Nezha would fight in the overthrow of the Shang dynasty and the establishment of the Zhou. He took Nezha as his disciple shortly after the boy's miraculous birth from a flesh ball and trained him for seven years, teaching him Daoist arts and combat.
The Lotus Body
When Nezha killed Ao Bing, the third son of the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea, and provoked the wrath of all four Dragon Kings, he took his own life to spare his family. He returned his flesh to his mother and his bones to his father.
Taiyi Zhenren built him a new body. Lotus roots for bones, lotus leaves for flesh: no longer mortal tissue but something harder and stranger, a form born from a flower rather than a womb. He armed it with the Fire-Tipped Spear and the Wind Fire Wheels. The boy who had died to save his family was reborn as a weapon.
