Cepheus, king of Ethiopia, and his wife Cassiopeia were the parents of Andromeda. Cassiopeia's boast against the Nereids brought Poseidon's wrath upon the kingdom and led to Andromeda being chained to a rock.
Phineus of Aethiopia was the brother of King Cepheus. Both were princes of Aethiopia, and Phineus had been betrothed to Cepheus's daughter Andromeda before Perseus intervened.
King Cepheus was compelled by an oracle to chain his daughter Andromeda to a rock as a sacrifice to the sea monster Cetus, which was ravaging his kingdom of Aethiopia.
