Atlas bears the sky, Prometheus is chained to a rock, Menoetius Titan was cast into Erebus, and Epimetheus loosed suffering on mankind by accepting Pandora.

    Hesiod (Theogony 507) names the Oceanid Clymene as their mother; Apollodorus (Bibliotheca 1.2.3) names the Oceanid Asia instead.

    Phaethon and the Heliades were children of Helios and the Oceanid Clymene. After Phaethon's fatal ride of the sun chariot, his sisters the Heliades wept so long that the gods transformed them into poplar trees.

  • The Oceanids were three thousand freshwater nymphs born to Oceanus and Tethys who nurtured rivers, springs, and streams across the world. Hesiod named the eldest and most honored among them in the Theogony.
