Mythology & Lore
She of the Flint Heart
Eurybia was a daughter of Pontus and Gaia, born among the first generation of sea deities alongside Nereus, Thaumas, Phorcys, and Ceto. Her name means "wide force," and Hesiod calls her "she of the flint heart within her halls" — an epithet given to none of her siblings. No myths survive of Eurybia acting on her own, and no cult is attested in her name.
The Line of Crius
Eurybia married the Titan Crius. Their son Astraeus wed Eos the Dawn and fathered the four winds — Boreas, Zephyrus, Notus, and Eurus — and the stars of heaven.
Pallas, their second son, married the Oceanid Styx. When Zeus called for allies against the Titans, Styx was the first immortal to answer. She brought her four children — Nike, Zelos, Kratos, and Bia — to Olympus before the first blow was struck. Zeus placed all four at his throne, where they stood as his permanent attendants.
Through Perses, their third son, and the Titaness Asteria came Hecate. Zeus honored her by preserving the share of dominion over earth, sea, and sky that she had held even under the older gods.
